AshleyScirra
Mozilla are working on an experimental implementation of WebGL2, based on OpenGL ES 3: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Platform/GFX/WebGL2
HTML5console
Thank you for the link, Ashley. Any possibility we might see this in an upcoming beta release?
Ezelia
don't think so, and it's not a good idea at all to use it!since WebGL2 is still a Mozilla prototype
xerver
From the wiki itself (emphasis added by me): This WebGL 2 prototype is just that --- a prototype. It's insecure, relatively untested, and its API can change at any time. To prevent the real world from starting to rely in its API, this WebGL 2 prototype is only available in Nightly and (soon) Aurora, and not on the Beta and Release channels. Moreover, even on Nightly and Aurora, it is only available if a hidden preference has been manually added in about:config.
rich
It's bound to be hidden/beta for a while as it's a brand spanking new version of OpenGL ES. Even so it's a mixture of exciting to see where it's all going, and highly frustrating because we can barely use WebGL as it exists today, never mind this stuff! rich
I said device, not desktop/laptop. And it's disabled by default in Safari on OS X. Show me an Android device it's enabled in by default.
Psychho
Were arguing about being able to use WebGL not it being supported on all devices. Also if you want to fight definitions neither mobile phones, computers or laptops fit the definition of a device because non of them serve a specific purpose. rich
You might be arguing about that, but that isn't what I was ever talking about. My point was nothing more than it's premature to get excited about a new version of a technology that most people can't even experience the first version of yet, never mind round two. joannesalfa
Blackberry z10 10.2 supports WebGL about 2 rotating 3D objects with light direction in 60 fps!
rich
Well that's about 30 people (not including Blackberry staff) who'll see it then

Stemkoski
@rich: an update from http://techcrunch.com/2013/08/22/chrome-30-beta-for-android-brings-webgl-and-new-swipe-gestures-to-mobile-improved-search-by-image-to-desktop/ : Google today launched the latest beta of Chrome for desktop and Android. This release marks the first time Chrome for Androidsupports WebGL by default. Previous versions of the beta for Android already made WebGL the standard for rendering interactive 3D and 2D graphics in the browser, available behind a flag. It’s now enabled by default on all mobile devices that feature a relatively high-end GPU, including those found in the Nexus 4 phone and Nexus 7 tablet. And another option is using CocoonJS / Ludei to compile WebGL for Android/iOS -- demos at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ludei.demos.webgl , more info at http://blog.ludei.com/cocoonjs-1-4-available-now/.
