xerver
FirefoxOS launches in Spain in less than a day. For those who don't know, FirefoxOS is Mozilla's attempt at creating an Open Web mobile device. The idea being that all you need to have is the tools and principles of the web. All apps that run on the phone are web-apps made with the normal html/css/js tech stack. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/partners/https://brendaneich.com/2013/07/firefox-os-launches/ It is of course Open Source, hackable software. If you really want one now, you can order a Developer Preview at geeksphone: http://www.geeksphone.com/ -Chad
Gio
Sadly they're all sold out on geeksphone... in fact, they sold out in a matter of hours when they were first made available! Firefox (the browser) has a simulator for the OS, which is available as an extension. This is going to be great for html5 games.
rich
Until this phone starts registering in our stats/log files, it just remains a geek curiosity to me to be honest. I wish them all the best with it though, just can't tell if it will ever really become anything significant.
austin
Regardless of if it succeeds as a consumer device, Firefox OS is a very good thing for HTML5 games. Mozilla has put in a lot of work in convincing some well-known games and studios to start working more with HTML5. It's a difficult task, but I really do hope the OS gains traction. I have an older test device and it's not something I'd switch to as my main phone, but I'm not their target market right now. They're going after the markets and people who don't have smartphones yet.
Gio
According to analysts it's going to be 1% of the mobile market by the end of the year. Not massive, but it's a good start... a tiny slice of a huge pie.
sbat
If you have an old compatible Android phone laying around, you can install Firefox OS it seem:https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Firefox_OS/Installing_on_a_mobile_device
end3r
I really believe in the whole Firefox OS concept and wish it will succeed. For me as a front-end developer and JavaScript programmer having hackable mobile operating system is like the best gift for Christmas.I've targeted my game Captain Rogers for Firefox OS and published it in the Marketplace, if anyone's interested:https://marketplace.firefox.com/app/captain-rogers

I'm very curious to see if publishing games on their marketplace will pay off

I'm very curious to see if publishing games on their marketplace will pay off Sure, will do that For now it's almost nothing, but as you know the whole platform is officially just starting, so patience is important. I'll look at the statistics when the next countries will launch their phones and see how it affects downloads.
