jalex
I have created a platform game in 2D for the desktop that is based on the Classic Space theme by LEGO. It is still under testing so I will make a new post later on when it is finished, but here is a little preview of the game. It is written from scratch in Javascript without using any libraries (except for jQuery sometimes), and since it is quite big it probably takes more then 5 hours to finish. In total there are 6 bosses and about 50 different enemies. The graphical style is a mix between Nintendo 8-bit and C64. I also wonder if you got any tips on how I can spread this game to a bigger audience? Jammy, dude78, eps and 5 others

bitelchux
Perfect, waiting for the link, meanwhile, if you want to reach more people, you could... - Publish at http://itch.io, https://gamedistribution.com, https://www.newgrounds.com/, https://famobi.com, facebook Instant games ... - Wrap the game in an android and/or iphone game via phonegap, ludei and so on - Publish the code in github - Publish game in https://globalgamejam.org/, http://ldjam.com/ Some of this options make you earn money BTW... b10b
@jalex $4.99 for you right here, I must play this! A LOT of people will feel the same ... the challenge is using the LEGO IP and navigating the licensing issues (if moving your game into a commercial environment). Conventional publication may not be appropriate, pure-free-fan-game may survive a while, something under the LEGO roof may be viable ... You probably have this figured out but I'd love to know - Who do you want to play your game? What's your ideal goal commercially? And yes, again, totally ace! BdR
Wow, that is a very cool looking game. The 8bit style graphics works well with the LEGO blocks and figures. Back in the day I just loved the Space LEGO, as a kid I had a couple of space crafts and the space station, I think the one in the background of your game with the rocket taking off. Btw did you use Phaser or another library for this?

That is great info! Thanks! I will have a look at those. Android/Iphone I think is not an option since the game needs a keyboard input. And making money on the game might not work though, because it is based on LEGO. Not sure what is ok and not ok to do there.

Yeah, not sure what you may do when using LEGO in a game. But while earing money on the game is nice, I did not make the game for that purpose initially. I hope most of all that many people will play it and enjoy it. "Under the LEGO roof", you mean that LEGO would publish the game, or just reaching out to LEGO fans? Who I want to play my game. That would be anyone that might enjoy playing this type of games to play it, and also LEGO fans.

So much nostalgia! No I did not use any libraries, I built it from scratch. My biggest headache when programming it I would say was the collision detection. jalex
Btw, how easy would you say it is to get a Youtube gamer with many subscribers to play this game? I'm thinking that it would be a good way to letting people know about it.
BdR
Contacting Youtubers asking if they want to review your game is a very good idea. In general, getting people to know about your game is very much underestimated by indie devs. I've been following the Game Dev Underground channel and he has some important things to say about this, I can recommend watching a few of his videos. How easy is it? Well, it requires some effort obviously. The big Youtubers like Pewdiepie or Markiplier get loads of requests, I assume a lot of commercial PR stuff too, so that's probably unlikely. But there's not harm in trying, although I've got no clue on how to effectively contact them.. You'll probably have more luck trying to contact someone like BeyondTheBrickTV. Also, I've found that posting about it on Reddit also helps a lot. You could try on the WebGames subreddit or there's also a LEGO subreddit. I checked out Game Dev Underground and his tips for marketing. Many good advices. So maybe I will try and get in contact with small or medium sized Youtubers first of all. I will definitely try and get in contact with some LEGO sites as well. I have post some of my own LEGO creations on Reddit before, but never quite understood what works and what doesn't. It seems random, or being right in time, since some that has been appreciated on other sites didn't get much reactiona all on Reddit, while some others did.
