glass22
Hi, I can program a few languages, I've made a game using javascript and phaser, but one thing I'm really lacking is the theory behind making games, things like tile maps? and other game specific aspects I just don't understand. Does anyone know of resources that teach these kind of things? rarther than coding?
1-800-STAR-WARS
"The art of game design: a book of lenses" is probably the best game design book I've read. http://artofgamedesign.com/ As for tile maps, if you're just after a tool to make them - Tiled is probably the most common (and Phaser supports them natively) http://www.mapeditor.org/
alex_h
There are lots of articles on gamedev.net, although many of them are about techniques for developing more complex console type games rather than casual mobile stuff - a lot of it is still probably relevant http://www.gamedev.net/page/resources/_/technical/game-programming/
