mazoku
When you purchase art from an artist do you sign a contract for it? How do you protect from problems? Any sample contracts I can use?
b10b
What problems do you imagine happening? Identify them, create a pre-plan, run all the scenarios. Turn that into an "agreement" to create value for both parties (rather than a "contract" with lofty words that may lead to false confidence). Headings could include: responsibilities, specification, deliverables, schedule, fees.
blossy
On a less professional, contract-less level, you'd want to list all your requirements to the artist and ask for confirmation if they're OK with all points. Make sure to mention the usage rights over the artwork and to set deadlines. Keep record of all communication.
JacobM
they have to specifically assign you the rights to the artwork. without a contract they still own the rights.
