Dad72
Hello, I have seen in 2.6 a new holographic camera and am curious to see a result, but I can not find any example. Is there an example of this camera? Thank you
Sebavan
Not yet, I am working on it, this will enable BabylonJS on Hololens :-)
Wingnut
Cool. Hey Dad72, remember when we talked about that "mixed reality" thing... about 1.5 years ago? Real, fully operating 2d computer apps... mapped onto 3d planes. Blender running on a plane at player's left side, scene code in an editor window at player's right, etc. Dunno why MS is calling it "mixed reality" when everyone else is calling it "augmented reality". Likely targeting profits. There is one major issue that haunts "HoloLens"-like systems, though. 2D apps have best resolution and least eye strain, when viewed in 2D. So, essentially, folks will only use a 3D taskbar substitute. Every time a user wants to "use" one of the 2D app windows floating in 3D space, and click it, it will almost always be used in 2D. A 3D view of its screen... will not have the same font clarity. Windows users can see this now... by holding Windows button and tapping Tab button (3D task bar view). See how the text on the windows... is more difficult to read? (I'm SUCH a kill-joy for the drooling shoppers, huh?) Still, it IS good that MS is starting to think-about operating Desktop from within a BJS scene. (Wingnut hears the sound of 1000 Windows security officers... cocking their guns.) And HoloLens needs headgear, too? I dunno about that. Likely for finger-tracking. It seems to me... that if it was at-all natural for a human to wear headgear, we would have been born with a threaded bolt-hole in the tops of our skulls. Head-based displays. *sigh*. Novelties. But, the world of "inputting"... is just getting rolling. It's going to go crazy. When we see the browsers start honoring pointerNearer and pointerFarer, then we will know things have REALLY gone to hell. heh. Can I tell another Christmas kill-joy story? Thanks! Once upon a time... I was driving through a happy little town, sunny day, and I see ahead a church, where a wedding had just finished. The bride's maids in pink gowns, were all smiling, watching and pointing-at a playful squirrel, which was gathering acorns on the sunny church grass. Suddenly, the squirrel took-off running toward the street, and I killed him dead with my Firestone radial tires (accidentally, of course). You should have seen the bride's maid's reactions. It was like I kicked each one of them in the gut. SO sad. *sigh* Happens, I guess, but it couldn't have been at a worse time/place. HAPPY HOLIDAYS, EVERYONE! Btw, the subject is the new BJS holographic cam, in case ya'll forgot.
davrous
Yes, @Sebavan is currently doing a great job supporting HoloJS (a wrapper using Angle to target HoloLens). We will work also with our favorite designer Michel to try to build an interesting demo. Stay tuned! Dad72 and NasimiAsl
JCPalmer
Just thought you should be aware of a recently proposed WEBGL_multiview extension. Looks similar at first glance to what is in OpenGL. What brought this to my attention is on Jan 2 someone started a message thread of every extension in progress in WebGL. Think what was in response to someone posting on DL on Dec 31 asking "Is WebGL 2 dead?"
