MikeHart
Hi folks, BRL has renamed Monkey to Monkey X and totally revamped its Monkey website at www.monkey-x.com Adding to that, Monkey X is now free for HTML5 and desktop platforms and you can develop even commercial apps with it. Also everyone can signup in the community now and ask questions about Monkey X there. CheersMichael Hartlef
cubiq
Thanks for the heads up, I admit I didn't know monkey. "To download Monkey X, please create a free Monkey account first" this is something that I really hate let me try it first... then I'll register
nem0ff
Sadly, but practically no activity exists on the monkey HTML5 forum...
rich
I've always been a fan of what Blitz Research do, right back from the Skidmarks / Amiga days (yes even when I worked for their biggest competitor - but I can't help but feel that packages like this, that require you to learn their own custom programming language, just don't make a great deal of sense these days. The concept (target multiple platforms from a single code base) is of course admirable, it's just having to learn their own syntax and way of coding, having to use their IDE (because next to no others will understand their proprietary syntax) all just feels very 1990s. Felipe
Monkey has to be one of my favorite languages / tool. Is so simple and fun to use. Really straight forward. I actually ported my js13k game to PS Vita with monkey, and it was very easy. Is sad that no one really got interested on it where I work. To be honest I hate the idea of "wrapping" my js code, I like to have access to the final source code at the end if I want to tweak it, that´s a reason why I didn´t like haXe that much either. samowitsch
Monkey is great. I have developed a little game for iOS, Android and HTML5 with it. You by it once with free future updates! No restrictions or monthly fees. Just compare it with other multiplatform solutions.

Compared to Construct and Gamemaker, HaXe makes it very easy to read final .js source, and even easier to insert pure js in your haxe code with untyped __js__(" pureJs() ");
gsgames
Have any of you found the HTML5 target suitable for mobile dev though? I think it's geared more towards desktop HTML5.
MikeHart
Have any of you found the HTML5 target suitable for mobile dev though? I think it's geared more towards desktop HTML5. Why, making my game running fine on mobile was not that difficult. The sound thing is a problem but I heard that some have managed it. gsgames
Yes, It was the sound thing that was my concern. It's been 6 months since I last used it. I'll give it another go.

To my knowledge, it won't work out of the box on iOS devices. But some got it working. I left it out.
