rich
"While some developers believe that HTML5 will provide the future for browser games, Firefox company Mozilla has other plans -- and they've brought along some notable friends to help them out.The company unveiled asm.js and Emscripten at the start of the year, upcoming technology that Mozilla says can take C++ code and convert it into Javascript, essentially allowing high-end games to run in web browsers far more easily." http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/206835/Monster_Madness_Online_The_first_Unreal_Engine_3_browser_game.php

crashposition
It's really impressive work but I did find the interview video a little disingenuous. While it's true to say don't need plugins anymore, that doesn't tell the modern browser story. You are going to need a desktop browser with an asm.js compiler and support for WebGL (with the graphics drivers to support it). dev
rich
True.. the plugins have merely moved inside the browser code
agmcleod
I think the main thing is finding good ways to keep things like textures and other large assets persisted on the computer's side, so they only have to download it once, much like how desktop games work. Browser caching will help for a while, but I wonder what the long term solution is. I know there's the file api, but i think that only allows temporary access for writing.
