alex_h
What software do people use to create .aac (.m4a) files?I tried using the FFMpeg library with audacity but neither google chrome on desktop or iOS Safari seem to like the files it has created. I saw something online about using VLC but it looked like a bit of a faff to me, the command is buried deep within a nest of menus. Isn't there a simpler way? prtksxna
I usually use this - http://audio.online-convert.com/convert-to-aacHaven't been able to find any other alternative as convenient as this.

Chris
The best tool for converting anything to anything is imho "Mediacoder". Its an opensource tool and really fast, but I think limited to Windows.*Edit*Nope, it seems to be available for Mac and Linux, too

alex_h
It's just dawned on me that the only reason I was having trouble with .m4a files in the first place was that I had forgotten to register the .m4a mime type in IIS... Doh!
@99golems
I'm on mac and I used Audio-Converter. It does aac m4a mp3 ogg wav and a bunch of others. For my games I have found it sufficient to have just ogg and m4a versions of sound files.
vacum
I've been using Amadeus Pro (OS X only) and it does the job flawlessly. I think the demo-version supports the batch processor for converting between file formats. http://www.hairersoft.com/pro.html OS X also ships with the unix command afconvert that also does the job. https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#qa/qa2009/qa1636.html
