trying to update a line

What am I doing wrong. 

I am trying to update a line with new points on the fly.

you can only change the existing point positions when updating the mesh, not to add new points

That begs the question is there anyway to do this? What I want is a line to track he movement of a vehicle for a fixed period of time. 

Let say 120 seconds.

If you know in advance how many points you want in your line, you can add them once at the same position and only then update their positions
