nikki
Hiya, I've created a new portal for HTML5 mobile games, it's called PlayZap (http://playzap.net). It started out as me messing around with Node.js, and grew into something much bigger. And then shrank into something much smaller, but there'll be more about that in the blog post I publish tomorrow I've spent a long time working on this - much longer than I should have done, truth be told. I'm going to continue working on it, and fleshing out all those half baked features I've got sitting in my git dev branch If you could take a look and let me know what you think, I'd really appreciate it. Similarly, if you have a game you'd like me to link to, drop me an email (admin@...) with an icon and a screenie and I'll put it up for you as soon as I can. Cheers!Nikki. remvst
Got some issues on Firefox. It looks nice though. I just think you should make it easier to play games. At the moment you have to scroll down to find the button nikki
nikki
The library I used for the front-end (Ratchet) is very Webkit-centric. You're 100% correct though, I'll try to get those Firefox issues fixed asap, and do something about the play button placement. Thanks for your feedback! I really appreciate it. nikki
Ok, I've moved the button right to the top of the page. I'll get to work on Firefox as soon as I can, though I think that might take me a little longer...
hima
I think it's really neat! Thank you for putting my games on there Curious, what do you use to make this? JQuery Mobile?
nikki
Hi Hima, I'm really glad you like it! It's made with Node.js, MongoDB, Redis and Ratchet for the front end. I wrote a blog post about it if you'd like to read more http://nicolahibbert.com/introducing-playzap/. Thanks! Nikki.
SilentxxBunny
Hi Nikki, I just checked out Playzap for the first time, and I was very impressed by it! I am also working on building an HTML5 portal at the moment, and I know from personal experience what a nightmare this can be. You're off to a really great start. The website looks, and works beautifully on mobile. I have the Galaxy Note 2, so more often than not, mobile websites look terrible on it's comically large 5.5" display, but your website scaled perfectly. Actually, it even put a few international publishers, who receive millions of plays every day to shame (in terms of appearance.) As far as content and features go, I know from your blog post that you weren't able to implement every feature that you would have liked, but I was pleasantly surprised with what's there already. Even just having a navigation bar with Home, Top Rated, Favorites, Categories, and All buttons puts you ahead of quite a few HTML5 gaming portals I've seen. One thing you may consider, if you haven't already, is having a PC view and a mobile view. The site looks fantastic on mobile devices, but the PC view could use a little bit of work. It doesn't look bad, but if you don't realize that it's a mobile site, it appears a bit cramped and static. At first, I thought the site needed more dynamic content (for instance, hover effects when scrolling through the games) until I realized that it was designed to look the same on PCs and smartphones. I now see why you did that, but keep in mind that some users may not get that impression right away. I have bookmarked your site, and hope to see it grow into a very successful HTML5 publishing platform. Keep up the hard work, and as the site grows keep adding those "dream features" you mentioned in your blog post one by one. I plan on submitting a game or two very soon, but if I don't stop typing this very second I'm going to be late for my day job. Cheers, and best of luck! nikki
Hi Aden, Wow, thanks for the (really extensive) feedback! Overall, I'm reasonably pleased with how it's turned out. Well, as pleased as I can be with anything; if I had the best mobile portal in the world I still wouldn't be happy with it You're entirely correct re: the desktop views, they suffered at the expense of getting everything working on smartphones and tablets. I'll fix that at some point Most of the traffic is from mobile devices though, so I might try and put the websocket stuff back in first. I have a 90% complete highscores API just sitting in my git repo, it's maddening! Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts - I'll try to keep you updated on any improvements / new features. Cheers!Nikki.
