-AAG-
I client just asked me whether they can put my games on the google store. How do you handle this? They haven't yet purchased a license for the HTML5 games, we are negotiating.
bruno_
You can sell him the rights to the game. Agree with a value and its done, he can publish it where he finds fit
-AAG-
But should the price be significantly higher than a normal HTML5 license? They will get the HTML5 game plus the rights to turn it into an android app. GSquadron
BdR
You can sell him the rights to the game. Agree with a value and its done, he can publish it where he finds fit I agree with this. I think you should base the price on what you think is fair for the amount of time you spent on the code, graphics, level design and whatever else went into creating the game. Packaging a html5 game as Android app (or smart tv app or wii or whatever) is quite a burden in my opinion. So if your game has responsive design for different screen resolutions, or other features that make porting easier, those are good arguments for higher asking price. But other than that; how they want to publish the game, that's their business I would say.
totor
How much would you sale a worldwide exclusive licence of your game on the google appstore? Or is it a revenue share? Assuming you own the game, you are the one who decides how you licence the game. If your game has a little success, you may regret later to having it sold for the price of a non exclusive html5 licence. Why not putting it yourself to the appstore? -AAG-
This isnt about the one game but all 10 on my Arcade portfolio. He cant have an exclusive because I already sold licenses for all of this games. I havent put the games on the store myself because I dont have the GM module for that and because I dont think the games are worth it, at least not in their current state. From what my client tells me the app will simply launch the HTML5 game and will requiere an internet connection to work. But it will be a separate app for each game. bruno_
In my opinion, you worked for XX hours. You should charge the rate you think is fair for those hours and sell the app (and source code and all resources - include in the price what you have bought). If the client wants to publish the app in web or a mobile store is up to him. If he wants you to do the packaging of the app, then you charge for the hours you need. Of course, he will always want to make more revenue than what he paid for the app, but that will be true for every game. If both of you are satisfied with the business, you can sell him more games, or upgrades to exisiting ones.
-AAG-
So quote a significantly larger price for the android exclusives. Got it! Thanks.
Daikrys
So quote a significantly larger price for the android exclusives. Got it! Thanks. if he agrees to pay enough to satisfy you and get exclusive rights for the appstore thats cool for both.if he pays a nice price but not enough to gain exclusive rights just sell him non-exclusive rights for the appstore like always. the amount you charge is always up to you but like you mentioned, exclusive rights are always significantly higher. just gamble a bit and negotiate until both of you agree so lets say for a non-exclusive you would charge half of what you would charge if you sell a non-exlcusive for a portal on top of that. so for a exclusive license that isnt exclusive for portals anymore but would be exclusive for appstores, why not charge at least double the amount the non-exclusive would be worth? just my personal opinion, i think you could even go higher but as always its based on the sponsor. if they got the resources to make decent money on the appstore they are willing to pay more
-AAG-
if he pays a nice price but not enough to gain exclusive rights just sell him non-exclusive rights for the appstore like always But wait, more than one person can have the exact same game on any app store simultaneously? I don't think so. If he wants to turn the games into apps then he needs to pay for the exclusive rights. I might include the rights to the regular HTML5 web version in there but not the other way around.
sandy234
I had the same problem. I asked for additional charge if he wants to put it on android by any means as an app.He refused to pay additonal charges and told that he wont put my games on app. That was fine with me. You get what you payfor.
