[WIP] First Html5 game / 48 hour effort

As part of a 48 hour game jam (OrcaJam based in Victoria, BC, Canada) I took the plunge and made my first Html5 game.  "Super Sushi Shefu" a basic platformer with shooting styled as 8 Bit retro for expedience.

I enjoyed the process of making the game, knowing that it would work without plugins and help me think beyond Flash or App.  I developed using Haxe + OpenFL + awe6, so was also able to output other formats too, but my focus was on Html5.

 

I found the sound format compatibility to be a challenge, needing to generate both oggs and mp3s, with conditonal code to trigger the correct asset.  I also found that performance (of canvas) varied considerably on each browser.  Chrome and Firefox seemed good.  New challenges, and interesting as a result.

 

I look forward to making more Html5 games, tapping into WebGL and gesture controls.

There is a bug, if you touch the top of the map while spamming jump and going left or right you will be able to keep jumping forever while at the top of the map. To reproduce go on a tall building so you can jump high enough to touch the top of the map, then just spam jump and hold your right arrow key.
