Hi , Hadzy

I assume you can draw with pencil and paper , like everyone?

Here is what I do when I need quick sprites for my games:

Tools you need: Paint.NET , Vector Magic(optional)

First way:

1. Draw your character with pencil on a paper , and take a photo of it.

2.Open it in Paint.NET, On a new layer above it , use the pencil tool to draw an outline.

3.Add some basic coloring to your character:

4. Optional: use vector magic to turn it into a vector image , then export it to bitmap at the size you need.

Another way of doing it:

Say you need a 32*32 character for your game.

1. Start with a 96*96 canvas.

2. Use a character template like this:

(this was generated with a nice open source tool called Sprite Creator https://twitter.com/SpriteCreator3)

3. Resize it to 96*96 using nearest neighbor.

4- On a new layer, trace it's outlines to make your new character:

5. Add some coloring:

As you can see the results are very OK for your small projects or as placeholders, they might not be at commercial quality but they are better than nothing , especially if you are working with low resolution mobile phones , for example.

Hope this helps.

I beg to differ, I cannot draw.

Not saying it's impossible to learn, but as of now I simply can't draw even stickman  :D

I didn't say you needed to have a super talent , As you can see , my pencil sketched character has nothing to do with human anatomy , it's just a head stick into a jacket basically.

In addition to that, You're making games , be creative ! , you don't have to draw humans , You may draw some sort of slimy creature or alien thing , people will still love it.
